1. Introduction

2002.03
My friend Sam Robertson went to the Diedrich's Coffee of Laguna Beach to do some reading, and I went with him.

It was late afternoon, and we stayed there beyond sunset, so the images here look warm, and there are many shadows.

The Greeter's Corner restaurant
I had lunch with various relatives and friends (Mom, Mark, Serge, Sam, etc) at this restaurant.  It has an outdoor cafe area with a nice view of the beach.  The "Greeter" (represented by the statue) was a historical figure of Laguna Beach.

Picture frame shop
As you can see, this store has a romanticized painting of lower Manhattan, New York City, featuring the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings.  If I were cynical I'd think the store owner was trying to capitalize on a national tragedy.  However, that would combine capitalism and freedom of expression, which are both American ideals.
